2023 Jongleur Petit Verdot
100% Petit Verdot from Dionysus Vineyard. A Jongleur is a medieval wanderer, entertainer, and juggler. We borrowed the term Jongleur as a metaphor for our lifestyle as small business owners, winemakers, and parents of three daughters.
Tasting notes
This Petit Verdot has aromas of lilac, lavender, wet minerality, blackberry, black plum, white pepper, earth, and sage. Texture is tight and linear with flavors of blackberry, black plums, and minerals balanced by racy acidity. The finish has fine grain tannins that linger across the palate. Enjoy through 2035.
Production notes
Fermentation:
100% hand-harvested and hand-sorted fruit. Destemmed and must-pumped to open top fermenters. Inoculated with a variety of organic yeasts (Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Pichia kluyveri). Punched down twice daily with three pulse-air treatments. Pressed at dryness.
Élevage:
22 months in 25% new 300 liter French oak barrels (Tonnellerie de Mercurey). Racked twice. Bottled unfined and unfiltered in American made glass (85% recycled).
