2022 Rouleur Syrah (WINE OF THE MONTH)
100% Syrah from high elevation old vines at Tudor Vineyard & Olsen Ranch. Bursting aromas and flavors of blueberry, blackberry, lavender oil, and white pepper. Gorgeous. The best Rouleur ever! JUNE WINE OF THE MONTH - 10% off this month!
Tasting notes
The Rouleur Syrah has a dark black-red hue. Bursting aromas of blueberry, blackberry, marionberry, lavender oil, white & black pepper, dried sage, loamy earth, pencil shavings, and notes of umami. The mouthfeel is dense, rich and exploding with black fruits, savory herbs, lavender, and notes of white peppercorn, roasted meats, and lavender. The copious extract is balanced by acidity and freshness. This is the best Rouleur so far and better than the Dutchman Syrah’s from a decade ago. Enjoy through 2032.

Isenhower 2022 Rouleur Syrah – The French term rouleur refers to the lead cyclist in a race. This wine offers a powerful glimpse of high elevation Yakima valley Syrah. It’s dark, tannic and robust, all Phelps clone, dense with black fruits, char, graphite, baking chocolate and espresso grounds. Given the power and structure and tannin this screams out for a grilled steak, a burger, sausages – something fat and greasy enough to cut through.
93 points, International Wine Report, December 2025
Drawn largely from Tudor Vineyard with additional fruit from Olsen Ranch, the 2022 Isenhower Rouleur Syrah was matured in 33% new French oak and opens with a lifted aromatic profile of violet flowers, boysenberries, cured meat, and kumquat peel threaded through crushed blue fruits. Medium-bodied and supple, the palate carries vibrant acidity that keeps the fruit vivid and energetic while subtle savory tones and fine-grained structure guide the wine forward. Already drinking with ease, the Rouleur balances freshness and polish with wonderful precision.

The 2022 ‘Rouleur’ is Yakima Valley from mainly the Tudor Vineyard as well as from the Olsen Ranch. Smoked brisket and black florals fill the nose alongside suggestions of kumquat rind and rich red fruits. The palate is soft and brimming with acidity, as this medium-bodied beauty is drinking nicely now. Drink 2025-2032.
