2013 Olivia's Blend

Olivia's Blend is an assemblage of our two best barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon from the 2013 vintage.  One barrel is Old Vine Clone 8 Upland Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (planted 1973) and the other barrel is Clone 685 Cabernet Sauvignon from Wallula Vineyard on Horse Heaven Hills.  The artwork was created by our eldest daughter, Olivia, when she was 11 years old. Only 46 cases were produced.

Tasting notes

Olivia’s Blend has a nice concentration of dark raspberry, plum and cedar notes. The aromatics are nicely integrated from the extra bottle age and high quality barrels. The mouthfeel is smooth and rich with copious extract and well integrated tannins on the nish. The middle grain tannins are all in balance which provides richness and depth along the way supporting an even nish with nice length. Olivia’s Blend is complete in

every way, hitting on each touchstone for wines of elegance, complexity and beauty.

Production notes

2013 was one of the warmest vintages we have experienced until a series of Pacific storms hit the Northwest in early October.  The weather immediately changed to cool fall days and cold night. The weather

change allowed the block 15 Cabernet Sauvignon grapes at Wallula Vineyard to hang on the vine until hand harvest on October 23rd. Wallula Vineyard is one of Washington’s most beautiful vineyards. It is perched on several outcroppings and slopes above the Columbia River in an area known as Wallula Gap. Block 15 is a higher elevation block and ripens slower than blocks closer to the river. Upland Vineyard is one of Washington’s oldest Cabernet sites (planted in 1973). It is a joy to work with fruit from old vines as they are majestic to view.

After the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were picked, we hand sorted the clusters, destemmed, and bled o 8% of the juice to further concentrate the avors in the resulting wine. The native yeasts fermented the wine to dryness and only the free run wine was retained after pressing.
